Travel Tips
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is definately what you are looking for. You can catch the train in Independance (just south of Cleveland) and take it through the National Park all the way to Akron. I've never taken the railroad myself, but I've been through the park. Trust me, it is gorgeous during the fall. I know a lot of people who take their children on the scenic railroad. They even offer a popular Polar Express ride at Christmas time where children wear their pajamas and get cookies, milk and hot chocolate.

There is just one other option worth mentioning. Cleveland has a light rail system called the Rapid. A nice idea for families might be to start downtown at Tower City Center and take the Rapid to Shaker Square. The route between Tower City and Shaker Square isn't very pretty, because it is mostly urban and industrial, but the experience is cool. Tower City is something like Grand Central Station in New York and has shops and restaurants. Shaker Square is a beautiful historic European style square designed in Georgian Architecture. The trains run right through the center of the square and I really like it. I would park, shop and walk around Tower City, hop on the next blue or green train to Shaker Square, take your son to Yours Truly for dinner, and catch a movie at the cinema at Shaker Square. The cinema there is a restored art deco theater with state of the art sound and stadium seating. Just buy an all day rapid pass for $3.50 and you are covered round trip. Source(s): Cuyahoga Valley:

We've never been on the train, but we go on drives through the area. It's beautiful! This train goes through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. And it's VERY close to Akron. It may actually go through Akron at certain points, but I don't know for sure.
Yea , just Google in your County name and State and "metrotransportation".
That should pull up quite a few sits for you to choose from , like a Metro Trip Planner If you want to plan your trip.
I hope this helps you out very well.
Go to www.cvsr.com . This is the website for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. I have been on it three times each one was wonderful. They have wine tasting trips for adults and fun holiday trips for kids.
Have fun I know i did.
