Can you tell me what it's like to live in Cleveland? |
Travel Info I have lived in California all my life and I would like to move to the Midwest to try something different. I would like to live in a mid-size city that isn't too boring. Are there a lot of cool places to hang out in Cleveland? Is it a friendly city? Travel Tips OK first off you know Cleveland is the poorest city in the nation right? The city is going downhill fast neighborhoods that people think they are fixing up ....well give it a couple years it will be slum again. Treamont, Ohio City ...perfect examples. As far as the people some are nice some arent. like everywhere else. The reply above stated this is a workmans city ...very true which means you have a ton of small bars one one almost every corner and a ton of drunks that inhabit them on a regular basis. The nightlife is ...so-so and very average we do have some decent places to eat, and because this is a workers town prices are reasonable. Some of the suburbs are very nice but you wont escape most "ghetto" aspects that follow outward in every city though. Even in Brunswick they are busting growing houses. Marijuana houses. Its a dirty city if you ride a bike stay off the highways you can feel the dirt smacking into your face as you go. its not jus tthe highways its just a dingy place kinda dreary really. ALthough our highways are better then some cities ...we do have construction all year long. Winter here if you arent used to it can be harrowing. It can last anywhere from October to April/May. Then you get the mud season shortly after winter and by mud season I mean anywhere elses normal Spring. WHere everything is covered with a brown sludge and an even nastier haze. this passes as summer approaches then you get the humidity thats like breathing through a wet sponge. typically 70-80% humidity on a good day with 90 degree heat. It feels nothing like California where you have that lovely dry air. We get a bit of sunshine its nothing to write home over. AND to the person who mentioned lake effect....god luv ya that is NO joke. If you are lucky enough to live in a snow belt .....you will get burried. Something to ask a real estate agent before buying property here. And we dont have 1 snow belt there are 2 a regular one thats north east and a secondary thats closer to Medina ..about 20-30 mins (depending on how u drive) south of Cleveland. A popular suburb. Id think long and hard about any long /cross country moves ....but think seriously before you move here its not ......its just not a good place to live We do have some good things...good hospitals. Big monstrous things you needs maps to navigate but they are good. Schools suck too BTW. If you have or intend to have children consider a catholic or private school. Source(s): Ive lived in cleveland 33 years and still stuck here.Maybe living here so long has left a bad taste. Other Travel Tips Miserable. Cleveland is not exciting! ( I lived there, it sucks.) Try Seattle, Tampa or a collegetown. Considering that you are from California, I would avoid the MidWest altogether w/the exception fo Chicago. People in the MidWest are boring, closeted and just plain messed up. Good Luck! I agree with the above answer - I'm born & raised in Northern California - I just spent a week in Cleveland and it truly is miserable. The weather is just awful - in all seasons - it was not friendly, it was dirty and very, very boring. You will have a hard time to find someting you will like being from California. However, I also have a home in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest is simply beautiful. Oregon is nice but too much rain. You sound young, if so, Seattle would be good - they do get rain but then you have all the action plus access to the San Juan Islands. Research the area on your computer - I would definitly forget about moving to the midwest! Montana and Idaho have some beautiful areas but I think you are looking for a more "active area." Good luck! :) Wellllllllllllll, if you do move to Cleveland, you will have allllll kinds of snow!! My sister and brother in law lived there for a while. They had about two ft of snow, and had to shovel out their front door!!! Cleveland usually get "buried" with the snow!! If your front door is Pink, you tie a sweater around your waist, wear white slacks and shoes, dont move to Cleveland. Its a working people town with fun night life. Inexpensive. Eexcellent suburbs. Affordable homes. All the good things that come with a mid-size city. Weather is always changing and un-predictabe. Cannot leave home without knowing the forecast. Harsh and long winters December thru April. Wet Spring thru May. Excellent summers thru September Beautiful fall thru November. Geat inexpensive golf, water sports, fishing, winter sports, fresh water beaches, forests and hunting. Not to mention the elite heath-care should you need any. You get professional sports teams that never win, rabbid fans that still support them. Cleveland has everything for a good life. The summers are more fun because of the harsh winters. Dont seek California in Ohio. You may love it. I lived in Cleveland for 18 years. I know. Okay I live just west of Cleveland and work downtown M-F. There is hardly any sunshine - lake effect clouds. It is colder near the lake. We have lake effect snow - BTW, it snows October through May so 9 months out of the year it is winter (they are calling for snow on Saturday). The other three months are only slightly better. The only place worse to live is Buffalo! (Sorry Buffalo people but you gotta know its true!). |
