How do deep-diving sea creatures withstand huge pressure changes? |
Travel Info How do deep-diving sea creatures withstand huge pressure changes? Travel Tips Their bodies are designed to withstand the pressure of the depths at which they live. As one example, I used to go to Mexico with a friend to fish the Sea of Cortez. The common fish there is called a "trigger fish" and is a bottom dweller. You typically catch them in about 150 feet of water. By the time you get them up to around 50-60 feet they will quit fighting because their insides start coming out. By the time you get them to the surface, their guts have come out their mouths, and their eyes have popped. (This is obviously not for catch and release, I eat what I catch). Their bodies are so accustomed to the pressure of the deep water that they cannot survive in shallower depths. Others nah... dun worry... they dun go THAT deep most do not have air bladders - they have an oil filled bladder. besides - thats the way they were made. One of them asked me the other day how can I withstand being out of water and still breath. I told him the same thing - I'm made that way. |
