Travel Tips
The Cleveland nightlife scene is varied and diverse: pulsating clubs, wine bars, vintage pubs, rock venues, rustic watering holes and trendy lounges. The scene can be different depending on what district or neighborhood you are in, but rest assured you can find what you are looking for Cleveland if you head to the right strip.

Be seen in Cleveland's trendy Warehouse District on West Sixth Street where old Brick Victorean Era warehouses have been rehabbed into modern loft apartments, upscale restaurants, and contemporary clubs. Velvet Dog, Spy Bar, Bar Flyy are the most popular dance spots, while places like Mercury Lounge, D'Vine Wine Bar, LIquid, and Jaq's are chic places to chat with friends over cocktails. If you want to soak in the energy without paying the high prices or getting dressed up, head to the Little Bar tucked away on Frankfort Avenue and experience one of Cleveland's finest neighborhood bars and late night kitchen.

Experience the eclectic nature of Cleveland's Gateway District on East Fourth Street. Entertainment venues such as the House of Blues or Pickwick and Frolic- Cleveland's own comedy complex, restaurant and martini bar - draw people from all over the region to this narrow brick street with lights strung overhead year round. Flannery's- an Irish pub, The View- a cosmopolitan lounge, Panini's- famed for their stacked sandwiches and crowd of Indians fans, and Lola's Bistro - the flagship restaurant of Cleveland native and celebrity chef Michael Symon add to the array of entertainment opportunities in Gateway.

For people who like good food, good beer, and multiculturalism, then head to the Ohio City neighborhood on W.25th Street. Bier Markt - a contemporary Belgian beer bar and lounge, Great Lakes Brewing Company -Cleveland's famed micro-brewery, Kan Zaman- hookah lounge, Middle Eastern fare, and belly dancing, and Old Angle Tavern - Irish pub, mingle among the ethnic and contemporary eateries and cafes in the diverse and historic early ninenteenth century part of town around the West Side Market .

Once a quaint ethnic enclave and filled with architecturally notable churches, Tremont has been recently revitalized with cutting edge art galleries, and cutting edge cuisine. Its no wonder why Cleveland's painters, writers, actors, sculptors and musicians frequent the bars and restaurants. Tremont is also a popular late night place for taxi cab drivers, servers, and after dinner people. Perhaps no place quite exemplifies Tremont (or Cleveland) like Prosperity Social Club, a vintage 1930s bar with a unique atmosphere and great selection of drinks and music.

Cleveland's social conscious college student population hangs out in the eclectic Coventry Village where its Bohemian roots go back to the 1960s. Tommy's- the city's vegetarian dining mecca and the Grog Shop- the city's indie rock mecca draw people of all ages who are decidingly different. Coventry's offbeat nature has been toned down in recent years with sports bars and some corporate chains, but it still has the reputation and crowds that attest to its hippie culture.

Flight exaggerates. There is no Gateway entertainment center. The Cav's and the Indians stadiums are there, that's it! There are only 3 wine bars, D'Vine, 806, and The Velvet Tango Room (old people because it's like $200 a bottle) You are not going to experience an artist or a student culture like she is saying. You wouldn't even know that the Old Angle is an Irish bar, and the service and food sucks. Pick-Wick-n-Frolic houses Hilarities, that's it. There's no comedy complex. She is romanticizing Cleveland to the point of flat out lying. A lot of the places she recommends suck. Although Mercury is my favorite. I really wouldn't bother with W. 25th.

W.6th is where the clubs are, a couple pricey restaurants too. You can walk around there. It's a small section. Within walking distance from Tower City.

Lakewood is 10 min. from downtown and has over 100 bars/restaurants within 2 (Madison and Detroit Rds. mostly) 2mi. strips. Once in Lakewood you can walk or take a cab (Westlake cab) for less than $5 anywhere in Lakewood

Coventry is a street, but everyone refers to it as Coventry. It is a little strip that has cool shops and GREAT food. Que Tal has the best burritos ($6). If you go there on a weekend check out Lakeview Cemetary, its very close, and boasts angel tours because of all the life size angels and people markers. It's where President Garfields memorial is. This cemetary is actually a VERY LARGE, AWESOME sculpture garden. These two places are close to The Cleveland Museum of Art, open Tue-Sat and is free. It is one of the best museums I've ever been to, really, very beautiful. Little Italy is right next to the cemetary and close to Coventry, but it's not much really.

Tremont is another trendy place very close to downtown. Any cab can take you there and you can just walk around. Tremont, like downtown, is kind of a pricey place to drink. There are also some pricey restaurants there. Hooples is a bar between downtown/flats and Tremont that has Glen Schwartz from the James Gang there on Thursdays. Get there early 7 or 8 because the place gets packed. He is an awesome entertainer and though he DOES NOT mean to be funny, he preaches too and sometimes it is funny. But DON'T laugh at him. It can be unsightly.

The Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame is AWESOME! It is downtown.
Tower City (also known as the Terminal Tower/Public Square)is downtown and although it is a mall, and the shops close at 9. It is open until at least midnight due to the movie theatre and the rapids. At least check it out, it is BEAUTIFUL and has a really cool 'fountain' in it. The arcade is really pretty too, though much smaller. They are both at least worth looking at.

I would definately eat at Brunos (Italian) while you are in town. The BEST Italian!

Panini's has AWESOME sandwiches. Slymans is said to have the BEST corn beef. Johnny's is said to have the BEST steaks (pricey). The House of Blues and Fat Fish Blue have EXCELLENT food. All these are downtown.

Get a SCENE magazine while in Cleveland. It is free and EVERYWHERE. It lists almost all the areas, clubs, restaurants, the music scene and much more. Definitely pick one up. The new ones come out every Wednesday.

Also check resolved questions for Cleveland, I know myself and a friend have put info in there.
I've lived around Cleveland my whole life. I've lived in Lakewood, Tremont and have hung out all around Cleveland (even the East Side- it's far from downtown) for over 10yrs.
