I want to buy my sister in law something special for her 60th birthday. Are there any places, without going to Murray Hill and the east side, where I can get her something hand-made? Are there any true imported crafted items stores, not chains like World Market? Or, someplace can maybe buy some art glass? Murano?

Check the Westside Market. Or you can look along Lorain Ave between W 105th St and W 150th St. There are a lot of middle eastern and Indian restaurants and shops along that stretch.

City Buddha on West 25th. They have a unique and eclectic mix of items. I'm positive you will find something that fits both the occasion and your sister's personality there.
