I'm going to Cleveland as part of a road trip and staying downtown. Where are some fun bars to go to?

Travel Info
I'm going with a friend. 2 single/straight guys. We like the pubs, sports bars, maybe going to see some live rock bands play. Not into the dance clubs. Any thoughts would be great. We'll be there for next Friday night (May 4th)

Travel Tips
Definately not the Flats. The party moved up the hill to W,9th and W.6th Streets in the Warehouse District about ten years ago! Plus, the Flats are being demolished to make way for a new riverfront neighborhood development.

If you really like beer and you're in town you shouldn't miss the Great Lakes Brewing Company on W.25th Street just west of downtown in Ohio City. Ohio City is all about good food and good beer. Great Lakes is Cleveland famous micro brew and an awesome brewery. There's also a cool Irish pub called Old Angle and a Belgian beer bar called McNulty's Bier Markt.

The Warehouse District is the biggest spot for nightlife. It has more of an upscale cluby atmosphere, but there are still some great pubs and Sports bars like the Map Room, Paninis, Blind Pig Speakeasy, and Johnny's Little Bar (tucked away on Frankfort Ave., my favorite, definately "Cleveland" if you know what I mean). Don't miss the Warehouse District. It will probably be swinging this Friday as the weather should be nice and people have been waiting all winter to head there, stroll the streets, people watch, drink on the sidewalk patios.

On the other side of Public Square is E.4th Street. Its an alley with a variety of entertainment venues. There's a great Irish pub called Flannery's, the House of Blues, Pickwick and Frolics comedy club, and Corner Alley - a new trendy bowling alley and restaurant.

Not too far from E.4th Street is a venue called Peabody's. Not sure whats playing there that night, but if you want live rock - check it out. My favorite live rock venues are the Agora and Grog Shop, which are not downtown but really good venues. The Grog Shop is about a fifteen minute drive east of downtown in Coventry Village, which is a cool neighborhood with sports bars, and other popular funky places. Coventry is like the "college town" section of Cleveland. If there is anything worth seeing at the Grog Shop - the whole district would make a nice evening and pub crawl.

If I were you I'd start in Ohio City, and then move east into downtown (W.6th St., E.4th St.) and possibly Coventry Village later in the night.

My fiance and I went to Cleveland in Sept., and I found that the best bar for food, drinks and sports is the Winking Lizard. There are about 20 of them all over town, but the one downtown is the best.
Go to the Flats I heard that good..Its just a strip of bars...
the flats or around the Q or Jacobs Field there's a butt ton of places there... there's a restaurant that Alice cooper owns (its by the Jake somewhere) but he stops in there ALL the time..
lived in Cleveland for 21 yrs..
the winking lizard is cool and has GREAT food. try also Coopers town, it is owned by Alice Cooper (original shock rocker if you didnt know). Spy ( or maybe "Sky" i cant remember) Bar is pretty cool to but they have a dress code and are often a bit busy. good dance club if you like that sort of thing or the usual guy thing, to meet chicks. The flats isnt bad but it deffinately is not what it used to be. tread lightly there and watch your back perhaps.
