I need a good restaurant and motel in Cleveland Ohio on May 2/07.? |
Travel Info A friend and I are driving from Toronto to Cleveland Ohio to see the Jays vs the Indians and we are looking for a good place to have dinner and then to stay after the game. We also want to find a bar or two to hit after the game. Looking to have a few drinks but not looking for a 'tie-one-on' college bar. Downtown preferred for the restaurant and bar, but east of down town is good for the motel because we are looking to save a few $. Bonus: suggestions for golf courses in town or east of the city are welcomed (looking for mid-range but not too expensive) Bonus 2: anything to see/do on the way to Cleveland along I-90? Travel Tips There are actually some very reasonably priced downtown hotels with rooms under $100 within walking distance to Jacobs Field, downtown restaurants, and attractions. I'd recommend checking out the Raddison, Hampton Inn, and especially the Holiday Inn Express. Parking is also pretty reasonably priced and shouldn't cost much more than $10 a day. Staying downtown will be better, because you'll be able to walk to the game, bars, and restaurants. It will make for a better Cleveland experience. There are actually a lot of exciting dining and entertainment developments happening downtown Cleveland right now on E.4th St. and W.6th St. These are streets you can just walk up and down and pick a place that looks fitting for you. E.4th St. is very close to Jacobs Field - and there you'll find a very nice comedy club, an upscale bowling alley, and a House of Blues music venue. Flannery's Irish Pub on E.4th St. is a very popular mid-level bar and restaurant for sports fans before and after the game. The intersection of Prospect and Huron is another little hub of activity particularly for game-goers. Winking Lizard and Panini's are two very popular casual bars and restaurants unique to Cleveland with multiple locations found throughout the region. W.6th St. is a little more glitzy than E.4th St. or Prospect and Huron. Most restaurants, bars, and clubs are upscale - but prices aren't too outrageous. The Cleveland Chophouse Brewery is a very nice option for dinner and drinks. Also, for a real Cleveland restaurant and bar experience - I reccomend Johnny's Little Bar on Frankfort Avenue off W.6th St. It is a small space with a very nice "Cleveland" ambiance, great food at great prices, and tucked away off the main drag so mostly downtown locals frequent it. Its a casual bar with a little bit of a nicer dinner menu than most casual bars. Others These are all well priced and are more casual bar/grille downtown spots. Go to Cleveland.com to get more info and more choices. The hotels you might want to check out would be the Ritz, Renaissance, Marriott, or Hyatt. But if you are in a little bit of a budget, then the Holiday Inn Express, Radisson, or Hampton Inn are good alternatives. Bar Listings: McNulty's Boneyard Panini's - really affordable Great Lakes Brewing Company* Fat Bish Blue Winking Lizard The Radisson is right across from Jacobs Field. Right across the street actually. It's a nice hotel and they have great beds. Hey...that matters to me. :) Penwick & Frolics (I think that's the correct name) is right downtown...across from the House Of Blues and has great food. Their brunch rocks. There is also a martini bar inside and a comedy club. It's a cool place to check out. Easy to get to from the hotel. Anything in the Downtown area would be very nice, pricey but worth the cost. And then you would be central to many of the museums. Cleveland has one of the best Art museums. Have a great trip. God bless**** A lot of bars are located on East 4TH St. One, called The Corner Alley, even has bowling. There are bars up and down Prospect. Also try the following Streets: West 6TH and West 9TH ST. Another good palce for bars is in The Tremont Area of Cleveland on the West Side. Also try the Ohio City area for bars. Finally I can also suggest the bars along Detroit Road in a suburb called Lakewood. Alot of bars also serve food so that should take care of that. The Raddison (?), Rennasance(?) , The Marriot @ Key Center, or the Ritz Carlton, The Holiday Inn are all located in Donwtown Cleveland. As for East Side golf courses, well not sure but I believe that the Metroparks have some Golf Courses. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=x&... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=x&... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=x&... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cle... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cle... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cle... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cle... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=tre... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ohi... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ohi... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=lak... stay at the renaissance and eat at XO primesteaks, that's my tradition. I have eaten steaks at high end places in: miami, L.A., Napa Valley, San Francisco, etc. and I still rate XO primesteaks as my #1 steak in the country so far. There are some OK dance clubs in the warehouse district: velvet dog, etc. don't miss panini's when you go down there when your leaving the bar, best food ever. I'm not a spokesperson for any of these places, lol. hope this helps. |
