Moving to Cleveland..Working in Solon?

Travel Info
Could someone tell me good places to rent an apartment. I noticed areas like Beachwood is just too expensive. I am looking for a place that has enough excitement for a 21yold. Rent is reasonable and not too far from Solon

Travel Tips
I'll be graduating from college soon and returning to the Cleveland area for employment. I'm from the area and like it a lot. There are so many great safe walkable urban neighborhoods now for young professionals to live in and enjoy that cost so much less than other major cities, which is why I'm returning to Cleveland. I consider myself very well traveled, and my objective opinion of Cleveland is that it is very much an "up-and-coming" city.

Solon is a little out of the way from the excitement and renaissance of urban neighborhoods in Cleveland, so you'll probably have to commute, but traffic is pretty light in Cleveland and I wouldn't discourage you from checking out a a variety of neighborhoods I'd reccomend. They may look a little far on the map, but considering Cleveland's light traffic - you're commute won't be more than a half hour.

Typically young people working downtown get apartments in Lakewood. Its an inner-ring suburb with a lot of inexpensive rental units, a lot of pubs, a fantastic lakefront park, easy access to the Metroparks. Lakewood is very safe, walkable, densely populated, easy to get around, and oriented toward a hip younger crowd. Public transit is very good, or you can simply drive along the Lake and be downtown in less than ten minutes. It has a lot of character, beautiful older homes, and mature trees. Its somewhat comparable to Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.

University Circle is located just east of downtown, and its where all the museums, universities, cultural institutions, major hospitals are located. A lot of people work and go to college in this district. Its very sophisticated and cultural. Typically college students, professors, museum workers, and doctors in University Circle live next door in Cleveland Heights. It is essentially an East Side version of Lakewood. There are a lot of affordable rental units, densely populated, walkable, and Cleveland Heights has some very distinguished residential neighborhoods and hip commercial districts. Coventry Village (very popular with college students) , Cedar-Lee (alternative, off-beat culture), Cedar Fairmount (sophisticated) are the main nabes in the city where people try to live. It isn't quite as easy to get around in Cleveland Heights as it is Lakewood. It isn't very accessible to major interstates, and the city isn't laid out in a grid fashion. University Heights, and South Euclid between Cleveland Heights and Beachwood also offer similar rental options as Cleveland Heights, and would be less expensive than Beachwood probably. Shaker Square is a really cool historic transit-oriented development with a ton of apartment buildings surrounding a charming neighborhood square with amenities and entertainment. You can take the Rapid line directly downtown from there too. Cleveland Heights and other spots nearby is definately something to consider as a 21 year old, but you're commute might be less living in Lakewood.

While Lakewood and the "Heights" have typically been the cool places to rent, there are some neighborhoods emerging as a hip new option. Downtown Cleveland especially is seeing a lot of new apartments, restaurants, bars, and neighborhood amenities. A number of initiatives has made downtown safer, cleaner, and more fun than I can ever remember. Its certainly an increasingly exciting place with a true "city" atmosphere without the hassle that can be a problem in other cities' downtowns. The Warehouse District is where all the swanky clubs and restaurants are located on W.6th and W.9th Streets. The Bingham is one of the flagship buildings I'd check out to get a feel for Warehouse District units and prices. E.4th Street is an alley packed full of entertainment venues like the House of Blues, and the developer has been converting a lot of the apartments in that neighborhood above the entertainment venues into apartments. They have a website too worth checking out.

Just over the river from downtown are neighborhoods like Ohio City and Tremont. Definately hip, cool, popular with artists, multicultural, new housing, rehabbed housing, new restaurants, ethnic eateries, cafes, etc. These are definately my favorite spots in the city, where I'd probably want to live. But they're still neighborhoods in transition and some people might still be a little weary of living there; even though they're fantastic places to visit and enjoy. W.6th and E.4th Streets downtown are big hotspots, but they can be a little touristy - well not really "touristy" but kind of cliche because thats where a lot of suburban people go out when the go "in the city". The real hip local city people in Cleveland prefer to live and hang out in Ohio City and Tremont if you know what I mean.
Others
maybe try Macedonia, Twinsburg, Brecksville, Broadview Hts.or N. Royalton. Depending on how far you want to drive these may be in fairly close proximity. They are all close to major interstates, so you can get downtown or wherever easily. Good luck!
I agree with the previous post. You can also look in Solon itself, Northfield, Bedford, Bedford Heights or Garfield Hts are also good. I live in Garfield Hts and work in Solon. And welcome!! 鈽?
