What are some "artsy" activities to do in Cleveland? |
Travel Info Something artsy I can do, say...next Wednesday? Travel Tips Cleveland is a fantastic arts and culture destination, and not that many people know it, but its true. The city has a long history of strong philanthropy. The museums, theater and festivals are well funded and top quality. There is almost always something going on, and in summer especially there is a lot to do. Every Wednesday during the summer, there is a popular event series called WOW (Wade Oval Wednesdays) in the city's premier cultural district; University Circle. Free concerts at Wade Oval, a beer/wine garden in the Botancial Gardens, and discount admissions to the museums of art and natural history. This event is not to be missed, and is exactly what you should do in Cleveland's art scene on a summer Wednesday evening. During the summer there are also several headlining events to keep on your calendar. Ingenuity celebrates the arts and technology scene in downtown Cleveland with a wide range of public performances from collaborating organizations. The Sparx in the City gallery hop allows people to take a shuttle tour of the best galleries in town throughout the city. Cain Park in one of Cleveland's most sophistcated and artisticly-inclined communities has a number of concerts and festivals during the summer and is entirely arts-oriented. Cleveland also boasts a number of arts-oriented districts where galleries, cafes, small performing arts centers have revitalized many inner-city commercial districts. Many artists and other people are increasingly attracted to these districts as a place to live. Some of the best ethnic and contemporary cuisine is also to be found in these districts. Having dinner and exploring these places on foot makes for an excellent evening out. Playhouse Square in Cleveland is the second largest performing arts center in the country and includes a number of beautiful historicly renovated theaters. It would be wise to check up on their website for programming as well. In addition, there are several great movie theaters that feature independant and foreign films like the Cinematheque at the Cleveland Institute of Art, and the Cedar Lee movie theater in Cleveland Heights.
