Does anyone have suggestions on the best places to stay in Dublin, Ireland? |
Travel Info We're traveling there on March 16-19. Travel Tips Dublin on St. Patrick's Day. (no bombs in the south btw, or the north anymore, for that matter). Depending on budget, grab a hotel in the Temple Bar District if possible. Walking distance to most of the pubs and Grafton Street. Look for the double-decker (top open air) tour busses that do a 14 stop loop around the city. Flat rate of 10 euros or so for an all day pass. The tour's not bad, takes an hour, but after that you can use that bus for transportation off and on at any of the stops the rest of the day. For the busses http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/dub... (don't buy tix online, you can get them from the drivers -- although not sure of the crowds due to the holiday) Others Stay in a well-sheltered, bomb-proof place, far away from any IRA outposts. If your a drinker stay anywhere in the Temple Bar. The Clarence is owned by Bono of U2 and is a bit pricey. We stayed a decent hotel in Temple Bar but can't remember the name. Forget about the IRA comment, we stayed in the north and had a great time. The last time a bombing was in Dublin it was in 72 I believe and it was done by Protestants with British Army help not the IRA. The Clarence Hotel Review:Rated #1 of all Dublin,Ireland hotels Summary: Dublin's premier boutique hotel located in the heart of the city on the famous River Liffey. Owned by Bono & The Edge of Irish rock group U2, The Clarence is very much a reflection of 21st century Ireland. Simple but elegant, unpretentious but luxurious, that which is modern and also embodies the best of Irish hospitality. A personal vision of the hotel's owners, representing a place that they would choose to stay in when visiting Dublin. www.theclarence.ie/hotel_dubli... |
