Ireland Tour?

Travel Info
What are the best but fairly inexpensive places to stay in Ireland? I really don't want touristy type things. I know there are some great tourist attractions, and I may hit the majors but, this may be my only chance to go and I want experience it without all the tourist drama. I plan to visit as much of the country as I can. Particularly interested in the areas near County Carlow to start. Any safety precautions btw?

Travel Tips
Go to the west of the Country. To really experience Ireland you will have to visit Kerry, Galway (and Connemara), and Donegal. You should be able to find cheep small accommodation in all these places.
