If I am an Irish Citizen with a passport can I work in the UK without a visa?

Travel Info
How do I get an Irish social security number (or the equivalent)?

Travel Tips
You don't need a visa. There was a special arrangement made between the two governments when Ireland got her freedom. The Brits need us to build the roads etc. I don't think that the agreement has changed. If you go to England call in to an unemployment office and they will give you a ss. no. or tell you what to do.

yes u can work there without a visa
You don't nned a visa to work in any country in the EU as far as I'm aware. one of the benefits of belonging to the European Union. Ring your local citizens advice, they'd know all about it.
your Irish social security number is your pps number (at least I think thats what they call it) it'll be on any pay slips you've received or tax return forms.
To work in the Uk you need a national insurance number which you apply for at the Job Centre of the town you're living in. Your entitled to one if you're an EU citizen. Once youve filled in the form you'll be called for an interview to verify you are who you say you are, will be working where you say yo will (they tend to expect you to find the job first which is odd) and will ask you for proof of where you live, bank account details when you first entered the counrty etc. I had to do one this year and its no hassle really- basically making sure people aren't in the UK under false pretences or are getting a national insurance number to go on the dole ( which your prob also entitled to)

should be able to find all the info you need through the department of work and pensions
