What makes visiting or moving to Costa Rica so appealing, especially to people from the U.S.?

Travel Tips
I believe these are the reasons why a lot of North Americans chose Costa Rica as a place to plant roots:

1.Proximity 鈥?it鈥檚 just a few hours away from the United States by air. It only takes a few hours to get to Miami or Dallas.
2.No military 鈥?there is no military here, so wars and threats of wars are minimal. In that respect the country is very safe.
3.Cost of living 鈥?one can live in Costa Rica for a fraction of the cost of the U.S. We live in a two bedroom, two bathroom condo in a nice suburb or San Jose. With rent and all of our living expenses, we spend only $800 a month for a very comfortable lifestyle.
4.Communication 鈥?If you are not fluent in Spanish, you can still make it here, for a while anyway. Internet access is easy, phones are good, English-speaking television is pretty good. It鈥檚 pretty easy to make this transition.
5.Low rates of violent crime 鈥?This is a pretty safe place, although theft is a major issue. Everyone lives behind bars here 鈥?you just get used to it.
6.Good people 鈥?the Costa Ricans are good and friendly people for the most part. We have many very wonderful friends who treat us with every kindness one would want.
7.Beautiful 鈥?this is a beautiful place and small enough that within a short time you can be in the mountains or at the beach! Lots to do, but also a great place for daily living.
8.Shopping is great 鈥?you really can get just about everything you need here. Lots of little shops and stores, but also Malls and larger grocery stores that provide those of us from the North just about everything we would ever need.
9.Still a great international experience even though it is comfortable for North Americans.

Come and visit for a while and see for yourself! Pura Vida! Source(s): I am one of those from the U.S. who moved here!

Other Travel Tips
- The weather is nice, it is a tropical country so not too high or too low temperatures. (lot of rain)
- Very touristic country, so lot of beautiful places to go.
- Lot of people speak english (if not they try to understand you), so languae is not a major problem. (The people is very friendly)
- Compared to US (big cities), it麓s a quite country to live in.
- And the most important is because compared to US it麓s a cheap country.

So, just go and enjoy it.
