How do you move to Costa Rica and by a house there?

Travel Tips
I live in Costa Rica now. I have been here since September. Currently I鈥檓 renting a two-bedroom, two-bathroom "condo" for $400 a month. It is in Desamparados, which is a suburb of San Jose.

My suggestion is to come to the country and live here for at least one year before you decided to buy. This is a very diverse country and what may look good to begin with may not be what you want in the long run.

There is also a good book titled 鈥淟iving Abroad in Costa Rica鈥?which is very good if you are considering moving or buying here. It has lots of information including that about real estate purchases.

You must be very careful when you buy here as there are few laws that govern prices or who can and can鈥檛 sell real estate. Also, financing is very difficult, so you will need to have funds other than depending on a bank loan here in Costa Rica.

Go slow and travel so you can decide where you want to live and the price range. Prices are soaring! But you don鈥檛 have to pay the high prices asked by some. That鈥檚 just one of the reasons you want to live here for a while. Get to know people who have been here. They are usually very helpful.

This is a great country and it鈥檚 a great place to retire. The cost of living is very affordable. My husband I live comfortably on about $800 a month.

Pura Vida!
