How come Costa Ricans love gringos but are indifferent to their own people? |
Travel Info How come Costa Ricans love gringos but are indifferent to their own people? Travel Tips That is not the impression I get at all from the Costa Rican people..... I've lived here for a little over six months....Granted most view gringo's as having money.....That does not mean they want in your pocket....As with all people you come across there are ones who want to take advantage.....These are very family and friend oriented people....I am made to feel like one of the family with my friends not a rich Gringo......This is a wonderful place....Pura Vida Others I haven't been so I'll keep my hypothesis short. Most poorer countries I have been to are similar, because we gringos are rich and buy things from them for exhorbitant amounts of money. My assumption is that Costa Rica isn't much different, so they are nice to Americans so they can get some cash. Their people are considered competitors for the same profit. Possibly? I agree with Trav14. Gringos = money. Fellows = competition for Gringos money. Why do you ask the question? What experience led to the question. I am not sure it is true. My impression is that although they are friendly, they keep their distance from gringos emotionally. They are indifferent to the plight of Nicaraguan immigrants however. |
