Travel Info
What percent of costa rica people speak english?

Travel Tips
Unlike other Latinamerican countries where only middle/high class citizens learn english, the Costarican government encourages english teaching so every public school(or at least most) has a basic english course, and most high schools have optional english courses as well (this are a bit more applied). Also, private schools have become more and more affordable, and these provide intensive english classes from a young age (I should know, I've been in a private school since I was 3 years old).

So, how many Costaricans speak english?

I'd say about 65% of young Costaricans, 30% of adult Costaricans, and 5% of older adult Costaricans speak english to some degree. If you are just visiting the country, be confident anyone working in tourism has fluent understanding and dominion of the english language. Source(s): Me, myself, and I. Once again, I should know.
