Does taking Vitamin B1 prevent mosquito bites?

Travel Info
I've heard that people going to Costa Rica take it two weeks before they go. The mosquitos don't like the odor the body gives off when you continue to take B-1. Has anyone heard this too?

Travel Tips
Yep i got told that too because i am traveling to Malta... I asked the doctor and she said its true and is even a good idea if you are going camping to prevent sand flies biting!!

Goood luck and have heaps of fun in Costa Rica!! Lucky you!!

Ive heard that and Ive tried it and for me no luck. Bugs like to bite me. Ive found the best way to not get bitten is to either stay covered up (I know - hard in hot humid climes) or find someone to hang out with that the bugs like more!

Yeah, DEET works, but it also melts plasitics and fabrics that contain plastic based materials so you ahve to be careful. I put on DEET one time (it was like 95%) rubbed it on my legs and such, then picked up a remote control, and it started meltign the remote (I wasnt thinking) - now the remote has my hand print burnt on it.

No, taking vitamin B1 does not prevent mosquito bites.
Why don't you use DEET - something that's proven to repel mosquitos?
