Where to go in Costa Rica? |
Travel Info I want to go to Costa Rica. I DO NOT want to stay somewhere with alot of tourism or at a "hotel". Price must be low. I want to "rough it". I would like to be on the beach(or very near). I will probably be driving there (I livein Houston, TX). Where can I go? A website would be helpful. Any suggestions would be great! Travel Tips You are planning on driving from Houston? The gas alone would be more than the airfare from IAH. Gas is very expensive in Latin America, close to 3-4 dollars a liter. Take a look at Taca too to get down there or connecting through Mexico city is also really cheap. The bus system once in Costa Rica is extremely cheap too, like 4-5 dollars to get from one side of the country to the other. Try Mal Pais at the soutern tip of the Guanacaste. It is more of a "roughing spot" than others on the Guanacaste. As to really roughing it, the Osa and like the previous post mentioned, in particular Pavones is a great spot. The other options are the Caribbean side and down past Puerto Viejo towards Manzanillo. Lots of "tent camps" and much more backpacker style than the rest of CR these days. try a few of these site; Traveljournals.net for peoples journals or their trips and photos; CRsurf.com is a good place to check out the beach scene from a surfers perspective and we are notoriously cheap too. Ping me if you like and I'll send you some Albums of different beaches to check CR out. I live in Austin and have been going down there with my friends once or twice a year for the last 12 years. Others Go and visit the Batman's house I am joking you can come to my place...its right at the beach 114 Rocco Lane Costa Rica go to Guanacaste, Liberia. very nice, cheap, affordable Hi, There are many places to "rough it." Just keep in mind that you might just get what you are asking for! Your best bet is to purchase a good guide book such as Frommer's or Fodor's. Alternatively, the Central American Handbook is a good choice particularly if you will be driving through Central American (yikes, I have done it and it is NOT fun, particularly alone). In Costa Rica there are some deserted beaches in the very north near the border with Nicaragua. You will need to have your own supplies, including potable water. Santa Rosa National Park is also a good spot with a wonderful beach that sometimes you have to share with other campers and surfers. In the Osa Peninsula, on the other end of the country, there are also many places to camp, particularly by the beach and one or another campground. Again, I suggest that you become familiar with the country and then simply play it by ear. Good luck, Carlos www.lava-tours.com |
