The percentage of educated individuals in Costa Rica is very high, and that combined with the influx of American investors has definitely increased the knowledge of English. Even if you encounter someone who doesn't speak English, they will probably recognize that you are speaking English, and they can find someone to help. Keep studying your Spanish, and don't be afraid to try to use it. When you get stuck, just try to rephrase things. Eventually you will work it out.
