I know this sounds crazy, but check travelocity, expedia and all of those type sites a couple times a day and something will probably pop up. We did and booked right then and are very happy with what we paid. We also booked about 3 weeks before we left. San Jose, Costa Rica is filled with ripoff artists. We met four people that had everything stolen from their locked car while getting lunch. Luckily they had their money with them. They all bought a change of clothes because the didn't want to spend their cash. Be careful in San Jose. I enjoyed Liberia and stayed in a cool place called El Punto www.elpuntohotel.com This was a little more expensive than the cat infested back packer places, but was well worth it.
