Best itinerary for Costa Rica for 8 days?

My husband and I are excited about traveling to Costa Rica in a few weeks. We want to do lots of fun stuff (rafting, ziplining, hiking, laying on the beach, and a somewhat active nightlife). What cities/regions should we plan on and how long should we stay in each? Also, should we rent a car or hire a driver (which is wiser monetarily)?
