How much to bum around costa rica? |
Travel Info I want to stay one star hotels w/cold shower only and eat rice and beans and maybe 5 beers per day. I will ride public buses only. how much will I need per day? I was thinking $25??? Im just there to DECOMPRESS and hike in the wilderness... Travel Tips It might be pretty tight on $25/day, which is about the price of a one star hotel, where hot showers a pretty much standard. The five beers will run you nearly five bucks at the grocery store. The rice & beans meals, which presumably includes a couple of eggs and a chunk of coarse meat from time to time, will be at least five smackers per feeding. To bum AROUND can be a problem, because transportation at todays fuel prices ($5.00 a gallon here) is not cheap. Perhaps forty or fifty dollars a day is a better budget, unless you're the type who thinks a night in jail is your personal Four Seasons vacation. As for hiking in the wilderness and decompressing, you sure can do that here, but you will have to avoid the major tourist centers where it is tough to find anything reasonably priced. The Atlantic coast is your best bet; the Pacific coast has become quite expensive in recent years. MochicaDoes living like a bum make you feel better & more relaxed ? Do cold showers calm you down ? Do you enjoy riding filthy busses with chickens ? Why bother with hotels... Sleep in the park or in the alley.... I spent several months in Costa Rica up in the high rain forests and had a great relaxing time but did not feel the need to live like the guy that shined my boots at night... Not even that much. I was able to get a full service lady escort in San Jose for $50 a day. |
