Anyone a backpacker who has been to costa rica? |
Travel Info iam looking for a really secluded beautiful area to stay thats by a beach and is reasonably priced please help Travel Tips Oops, Hotel Fiesta Premier and Four Seasons in Papagayo (see http://adventure-costarica.com/travel/co... ) are apparently not for backpackers (I would like to see one willing to pay US$ 100 or more for a night just for luxury and comfort - and still calling himself backpacker). Well, there are many nice places - such as already mentioned Quepos (next to a marvellous Parque Manuel Antonio), Jac贸, Dominical or Uvita. The beaches are however for surfers rather than swimmers because there are usually high waves. Another good option is Nicoya Peninsula (accessible by ferry from Puntarenas) with cosmopolitan resorts Playa Montezuma or Playa Tambor (good swimming, hiking, etc.) and natural reserve Cabo Blanco. As for prices, I have always found a hotel (single room) for a maximum $10 (5000 colones) a night in a peak season (around Christmas 2005). In some resorts, getting the best deal required local searching and asking, but it was always possible to fit in this limit. Bringing a guidebook (e.g., Let's Go Central America) may help you find the right places easier. One thing to consider when looking for "secluded locations" - public transport in Costa Rica is not as extensive as in Guatemala or the other CentAm countries. E.g., there are just 4 buses a day going from Puntarenas to Jac贸, and their stops + timetables do not hang anywhere. Having a guidebook, at least a rough plan and asking a lot is a key if you do not want to get stuck and waste time at uninspiring places. Also, do not go alone to deserted places - I was robbed at gunpoint outside Oros铆 (Central Valley) when walking in a forest at about 10 am. This is also Costa Rica. However, do not get discouraged - and enjoy the southern sun! Others Well, I am not a backpacker, but I am Costa Rican. You can try doing research on Puerto Viejo, Manuel Antonio and Punta Leona, in those places prices are quite reasonable. If you can spend a little more you can do research on Hotel Fiesta Premium (in Papagayo, Guanacaste), or maybe in 4 Seasons (also in Papagayo). Good luck!! |
