I mean to say from what I've seen they work to just barely survive, not even 1 colon extra.

i havent seen that, i see they have an active mall the plaza is full with cafes and everyone is eating , nice home with armed guards
I haven't been, but I know lots of people who visit Costa Rica. It seems like other places in the Caribbean, that the tourist dollars do not go very far into the population.
The average working stiff in Costa Rica makes about $250 to 300 per month. Which is probably much better than most of its central American neighbors
if they didnt have tourism the country would be fucked!
