if u r travelling at peak times- xmas week and easter week- book hotels in advance.
plenty to see & do, buy a guide book, frommers, lets go and moon r all good!

Dont worry, you can book/find all the activities you want to do when you are in Costa Rica, and its usually cheaper too. There are a lot of tours you can take, and there is always space.
Been to Costa Rica and the only thing i book in advance is hotel room.
