No I dont thik so
Tamarindo is a tourist town, but it is heavily used by Costa Rican as well as foreign tourists. If you want to have a lot of things to do it is your best bet in Guanacaste.
I was there with my husband in 2004 for our honeymoon. It was not crowded because it was in May, and that's the low season. I suppose that during the high season it's more crowded.
We stayed at the Hotel Capit谩n Suizo, which is in the quietest part of town. Very nice!
There are lots of activities that you can do in Tamarindo: sea kayak, snorkeling, a sunset tour on a sailboat. The beach and the ocean are nice for swimming too.
Costa Rican.
Hi,

Try MalPais or Montezuma in the southern Nicoya Peninsula of Guanacaste. There are plenty of tourism services (hotels, bars, tour operators) but it does not get as crowded as Tamarindo.

You are definitely better off there than in Tamarindo.
