Costa rica vaccinations? |
Travel Info What type of vaccinations would i need in order to stuyd abroad in costa rica for a month? Travel Tips Just go into your doctor and they will have the most current updates for you, and it is their job to be current so make sure that you do go see them. I went last year and have been several times. It is usually a double check of the standards plus hepatitus and depending on where you are going in Costa Rica you may have to have malaria and typhoid medicine as well. Some of these should be taken weeks before you travel so go in soon. Costa Rica is awesome. Have fun! Here is the offical website update for Costa Rica right now... Summary of recommendations: All travelers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic 4-8 weeks before departure. Malaria: Prophylaxis with chloroquine is recommended for the provinces of Alajuela, Limon (except for Limon City), Guanacaste, and Heredia. Vaccinations: Hepatitis A Recommended for all travelers Typhoid Recommended for all travelers Hepatitis B For travelers who may have intimate contact with local residents, especially if visiting for more than 6 months Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) Two doses recommended for all travelers born after 1956, if not previously given Tetanus-diphtheria Revaccination recommended every 10 years Source(s): http://www.mdtravelhealth.com/destinatio... Other Travel Tips I went last summer. Nothing's required, but your dr. may recommend a few. As long as your TB is up to date, you're golden. In most cases, none. If you are living in the San Jose area, don't bother. While the city is a ramshackle, it is much less third-world than you might imagine. Tropical diseases are rarities. In Guanacaste or Limon, the usual scares are present (malaria, dengue, etc.), but almost never reported. CR has excellent water treatment (but you still will want to avoid unfiltered icecubes -- only use the ones with holes in them) and few suffer tourista or hepatitis. Avoid sleeping on beaches because sandflies carry various nasty bugs of their own. Be smart about where and what you eat and drink and you will have no complications whatsoever. None. I'm 16 years old too... You will stay in CR one month. CR is not a jungle, relax. if traveling from us to CR, nothing is required by law. but i would ask your doctor and check out any medical alert updates for recommendations. it's worth it to save yourself from a ruined trip...or worse yet, malaria :) |
