I am a frequent traveler to Costa Rica. Fly into Liberia-much smaller airport and much safer city than San Jose. I like guanacaste-specifically Flamingo Beach. There are many economical places to stay around this area-Stay out of Tamrindo. Dirty, bad septic/water problems and the people will steal you blind. Nosara is nice, too but its more expensive to stay there.
