Moving to Costa Rica or Hawaii? |
Travel Info I am looking into to moving to somewhere warm. I live in Jackson WY and am ready to move. I need help on how to find jobs, living and so forth. Travel Tips Hawai'i will be alot easier to move to instead of Costa Rica since it is in the US. Although, Costa Rica will definitely be cheaper than Hawai'i. Others Well, since you are a US citizen, you cannot legally work in Costa Rica. It would take a while before you could work down there. Also, you would have to leave the country every 90 days in order to maintain your "tourist" status, and thus be there legally. Hawaii on the other hand is part of the US and therefore it's simpler to move there and find work. I think Costa Rica is a wonderful country with amazing people and scenery, but for the purpose of practicality, Hawaii is an easier/simpler choice for where to move. My aunt moved to Costa Rica a year or two ago. She loves it there. I think the main differences are: Costa Rica - not a great infrastructure - magnificent scenery - cheap to live Hawaii - very expensive to live - beautiful scenery - built-up (depending on what island you look at) I think with both lands, it is not easy to find a well-paying job. And in Hawaii, that could be a problem considering how expensive everything is. I know a few people that have moved to Hawaii, only to come back a few years later because they couln't get settled. But, Costa Rica is sort of primitive compared to Hawaii. So, if you don't mind pot-hole riddled roads and dingy buildings, I'd say go to Costa Rica. If you're comfortable that you can find a good job and you'd rather drive a sport car than a Suzuki Sidekick, go to Hawaii. I've lived in Hawaii for a while and it's very beautiful over there. Hawaii is a very expensive place to live, though. If you want to live nicely, you would have to live somewhere that's close to the downtown area and that will cost you. Thankfully, I lived on an air force base. I dont have any info on jobs. I have been to both places, I live in Costa Rica now, both are beautifull with similar vegetation, the main differences are the following : The cost of living is a lot cheaper than in Hawaii, Hawaii is one of the most expensive states to live in. In Costa Rica the people are much nicer and welcome americans or foreigners. Hawaii has better roads and tends to be a more oriental and south pacific atmosphere. Costa Rica has more climate variations depending on the area you live in, from hot and dry to cold and damp and everything in between, Costa Rica has one of the best climates in the world and all the products that you can get in the USA or Europe as well as local products available. There are also more and more americans living in Costa Rica. You will need to get permanent residency in Costa Rica which is not a big deal to get started but must be done with a Lawyer, there are also much more business oportunities for someone in Costa Rica. Right now, more than California and I hear people complaining all the time about the prices there. Houses will run you $550,000+ for a 3-4 bedrm in a good area. Downtown is actually the worse place to live. Lots of crime, homeless and it smells funny...The outskirts are much better if you know where to go. Jobs here don't pay well enough for people to afford to live most times let alone by a place. Not even my doctor owns her own home. Every island is different. But if you don't come with money or the skills to make it, I would really rethink moving here. I'm born and raised here and I'm trying to move to the mainland to be able to have my own place. The public schools here aren't that great either so if you have kids, expect to pay to send them to private schools if you want them to be...well, smart(er). LOL Renting will cost you $800-1000 for a 1bdrm, $2100+ for a condo or townhouse and so on. Gas right now is unbelieveably high. Easily $45+ every week to two weeks depending on what you drive and how often. Since your question is vary vague, I really can't give you much more on the different islands and the lifestyle on each as I said, each is unique.
