I need help and info on visas for american citizens going to costa rica/?

I will be living and volunteering abroad in costa rica for 3 months? i will be there august 10th through nov. 8th
do i need a visa for costa rica?

When you arrive at Juan Santa Maria Airport in Costa Rica, you will pass thru immigration, where they will issue you a Visa for $3.00. You DO need a valid passport. That allows you to stay for 3 months. Then you will pass thru Customs. They may look at your bags or maybe not, but it's no big deal.

for anything over 30 days you will need a visa...unless make the weekend expat pilgrimage...which is a quick over night visit to Panama or other location outside of Costa Rica and then return to start a new 30 day visit....Now seeing other answers...werent any when I 1st answered...I guess they have changed things...disregard my answer...lol.
