The snorkeling is world class. For shopping, walk as far to the left or right of the peir as you can to get better deals. It is very, very touristy near the peirs and the prices are higher. You can take a cab to Chaakanab to snorkel, but it can be very crowded. It is probably one of the easiest ways to do it if you don't have gear or beach access.

Go snorkeling in the warm water. Remember your in the tropical sun and use plenty of sunscreen.
Go sight seeing, shopping and eat lobster.
Go to the beach and/or snorkel. Forget the island tour, there's really nothing to see outside of the town where you dock. Beach is the beast thing unless you want to shop.
