Travel Info Going on a cruise. Can you rent jet skis @ Chankanaab Beach, Cozumel? Any recommendations?
Travel Tips
I've been to Cozumel a couple times and it is my favorite vacation spot. I'm pretty sure you CANNOT rent jet skis in the Chankanaab area because they would scare away the sealife and damage the reef; the area is a marine national park. I don't know how long you will be there or your interests so I will give you a few options. If you are intersted in marine/sealife, go snorkeling (and the Chankanaab is one of many very good spots), diving if you are certified and have the time, or do the Atlantis submarine trip. There is the tequila plantation/factory (really more just a store)on the island where you get lots of samples to try. Mr. Sanchos beach is a good beach to visit for a day if you don't want to do much and just hang out. Cervaza (beer) wise, try the Corona, Modelo Especial and the Modelo (Negril?) and debate which one is your favorite and, if you go to Mr. Sanchos, I recommend one of the tropical drinks. The uninhabited side is barren with not much commercial stuff there, but there are some minor Mayan ruins (but if you have time and are interested there are much better sites you can visit by ferry on the mainland) if you want to do the Jeep tour. If you're there for breakfast, try the Rockin Java or Jeannie's Waffle Hut (I'm not sure if either is still there after last hurricane season) which are both downtown on the ocean. Luch/dinner wise, most everything was good. Hard Rock Cafe is downtown, if that interests you, and I did get sick there (not last time but many years ago) from undercooked food. If you are the party type, Senior Frogs, etc. are also downtown. Ms. Charro's(?) and Mexico y Los Segulos(?)(right across from the naval post) were 2 cool spots to just hang out downtown to people watch/and relax with a drink. Souvenir-wise, there are lots of places (there is a pharmacy/tourist spot near Ms. Charros that I cannot remember the name but it seemed to have the best variety/prices for T-shirts and other tourist items or for a different experience go shopping at the Chedraui, like a Wal-Mart/Meijer, with the locals near the mall. That should fill your day.And by the way, you can rent wave runners at Mr. Sanchos through Victor's Water Sports (I thought they had them there so I double-checked on line through www.gocozumel.com). |
