Has anyone been to Cozumel recently? How is the beach is it cleaned up after the hurricane? |
Travel Info I'm ver interested in taking a trip to Cozumel, Mexico before the end of the summer and I wanted to know since the hurricane has Cozumel been cleaned back up? Travel Tips I just got back from a week there, and everything is up and running...it looks like there is damage, but most of the locals say it actually looks better than before, since things have been rebuilt. The beaches are all good, but there aren't that many trees on the beach. Others there is major damage to alot of the hotels etc, however unlike in the states, the mexican gov't is pouring millions into fixing cozumel since the mexican gov't needs the tourist dollars. All the shopping and the beach clubs have been back up since a few weeks after the storm. I went last Nov, 2 months after the hurricane and although I saw alot of damage, most of the tourist infrastructure was up and running. I would go for it if I were you. I went in March (it was a stop on my cruise). Since the ship was pretty high up you could see a lot more of the damage from the hurricane. For miles there were topless palm trees!!! Our ship couldn't dock because the dock was ruined and we had to be transported to and from the beaches by little boats. I recommend chosing a different place if you're going for the scenery. Grand Cayman was another stop on my cruise and it was in pretty good condition. Otherwise it might not be so bad. There were definitely a lot of tourists there and they seemed to be having fun at the places that were open. |
