I need help with destination weddings in Mexico? |
Travel Info My fiance and I have decided we want to get married in Mexico. One big problem we don't know where to go. We have about 30 people going but no destinations. We want to go to an all incusive resort, have a wedding, and have it cheap as possible. The point of not having it here in town is to SAVE money. I tried to go to a travel agent and got nowhere. I need to hear from people that have done destination weddings and how they planned it all. Any help would be appreciated. Travel Tips Listen, I would check it out thoroughly starting with your local Mexican consulate. I was married in Mexico City about 22 years ago. (My wife is Mexican, I am Canadian) The red tape was enormous. It took us over a week to get through all the permits and medical forms and so forth. Then because we were both divorced, we had to have some real political "pull" AND bribe several people or it NEVER would have happened! Even then the judge wanted to give us his first available slot 5 months from now. Result another substantial bribe. Maybe things have changed for the better, perhaps if you are not marrying a Mexican national its easier, I don't know, but you need to find out before you go any further. (I would rather set my hair on fire and put it out with a hammer than get married again in Mexico! - of course having finally found the perfect wife and having a perfect family, I'd rather set my hair on fire and put it out with a hammer than get married again, period!) Others If neither is Mexican I would advise you to go to Las Vegas instead. Like previous person it is a hassle for a foreigner to get married here. Get married in the states and have the party in Puerto Vallarta at an all inclusive hotel. Live In Mexico but married in Los Angeles The legalities involved in getting hitched in Mexico are enormous. Why not get married on a cruise ship that makes a few stops in Mexico ? In a way, a cruise ship is an "All-inclusive" floating resort. The Captain of the ship can preform the ceremony; your Guests can celebrate your marriage and also have a mini-vacation. There are so many cruise lines and you could have a 3 day, 5 day,7 day, etc. I think you will find the cost per day (per person) is a much better deal than staying in a resort (air fare, hotel, transportation, etc) If you still want to get married in Mexico, you should start with the consulate and get some directives from them. Good Luck http://www.rhodatravel.com call their number You should look on tripadvor.com. They have all kinds of candid traveler photos, and you can see what the weddings were like. Not all of the pictures are of weddings, but you can browse them to see which hotels it looks like you would like, and do the research from there. I wish we had done a destination wedding in Playa del Carmen area. Most of the hotels there are really set up for weddings. I saw a wedding going on at the Barcelo Maya. That would probably be a great place and probably not too expensive either. El Dorado Royale does weddings but I think it would be more expensive. I will attach the link I was talking about. If you have any questions e-mail me as I have been to all these places. Cancun, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen. My e-mail is my user name... http://www.tripadvisor.com/showuserrevie... this is just one example... |
