I'm taking a cruise to cozumel and was wondering if anyone knows about the transportation from the ship into

Travel Tips
There is a deepwater wharf at Cozumel where the cruise ships land; there is no need for a tender in from the ship. That said, the wharf is some distance from the town itself, although the village by the wharf is lovely and full of interesting shops. Getting the town can be done by bus, cab, or on pre-arranged outings made on board your ship.

I took a carnival cruise back in 2004 and cozumel was one destination. At Cozumel your ship will not dock but will just stay in the bay area. A transport ship that can hold about 75 people or so will come and pick you up and take you to the shore. I can also tell you that its much cheaper if you can book your excursions ahead of time instead of going through the cruise line while your onboard. Your travel agent should be able to give you detail about whats onboard. Drinks are not free but most food is.
I did the same last year. We rented a car for the day and drove to a couple of site. As soon as you walk off the dock you'll find a bunch of shops and a bit past them is 4 or 5 car rental offices. They also have A LOT of taxi's and buses. Go with a car because you can see different sites and non-tourist shops
Be very careful when selecting transportation into town from the port....they will rip you off. Make them give you a decent price...talk them down or they will charge you way too much. Carlos and Charlies is a fun thing to do in Cozumel.....the beach is also good. There is a great jeep tour if you like that kind of thing that takes you to some great places...about $89 per person. I always take the ferry over to Playa del Carmen for the day.....I like it better.
We were there in October with a group of 80 fireman. We were on the Carnival Inspiration and yes we drank alot, we also paid alot. You can buy soda cards on board which gives you unlimited soda. juice, tea, and coffee are free on board and drinks cost about the same as any bar maybe a little more. The docks were still torn up from wilma so we were tendered in which wasnt a bad process. I am taking my two boys back on the same cruise in March. Hope this helps.
