Cozumel Ferry Question? |
Travel Info My wife, two 6 year old boys and I will be in Playa del Carmen in early April. We arre intrerested in taking the ferry to Cozumel for a day. Where does the ferry drop you off? Is there much to do within walking distace or do we need to taxi somewhere? I am guessing it drops you off in a downtown area with things to do within walking distance. Any suggestions on what to do, where to go or where to eat lunch would be much appreciated. Thanks ps..any Playa del Carmen advice would be great as well. We will be staying at the Mayan Palace. We will have a car in Playa. Thanks again. Travel Tips Besides all what u heard in the other answers i suggest u 2 reserve 1 day for going 2 wether Xcaret or Xhel Ha, tho ecological parks with lots of things 2 do....i prefer Xcaret 4 the night show but actually bothh r similar.....ur kids will really enjoy it! Others I do know that the ferry drops off down town, walking distance to all the shops and several restaurants. There used to be a really good pizza(yes pizza) place downtown it has changed names so I am sorry I cant help there. Try cozumel.net it will give you suggestions on dining and sometimes they have coupons for you to use. yes you pull into downtown Cozumel and shops are within walking distance and restaurants are also within walking distance i was there December 2005 Yes, it takes you to downtown. Very small island. You can walk to most areas - beach food shops. Be warned, we where there in Sept. and there is still VERY heavy damage from the Hurricane. A lot of things that used to be there are gone or under re-construction. Might I suggest Isles Majures (i spelled that wrong) Island of woman. It is REALLY nice and you are able to see the actual living areas - rent a golf cart for 30 -40 a day and you can circle the entire island and see all of the beautiful sights. Go up to the top of the lighthouse for an amazing view of Cancun and surrounding areas. I highly suggest this for your family. Very safe and a great day away. If you decide to go leave from the BIG ferry area by the telephone company - it is the only one that runs every half hour - meaning you can leave when you are ready. The other ones have set times that you have to leave and they are more expensive. GOOD LUCK and get some sun for me, it is only 13 degrees here!! :( there is a lot to do within walking distance of the ferry drop off. there is a market which is really cool and you don't get as harassed as you normally would i was in cozumel last june and am going back to playa this july (2nd time). there is plenty to do in and around playa. honestly, i'd skip cozumel. as mentioned by someone else, the damage from the hurricane is still pretty bad on cozumel. the ferry drops you right near the city square (there's only one city on the island). really the only things to do are shopping and bars/restaurants, all walking distance from the ferry, it's not worth taking a cab to go anyplace else on the island. however you can do all these things in playa with a lot more variety. around playa i'd recommend a trip to coba, chitzen-itza (take the toll road - DO NOT take the free road - bring pesos for the toll, it's pricey but worth it), aktun-chen (nice cave complex). personally i'd skip tulum although most everyone goes to see it, it's way too hot and not all that interesting compared to coba and chitzen-itza. hope you enjoy your trip! |
