Cruise for one?

Travel Info
I want to go on a cruise, but don't have a partner to share a cabin with. I would prefer to just go alone, but can't afford a double-rate for a single cabin. Other than "special" cruises for singles, are there cruise lines that offer a single for a single rate?

Travel Tips
Prices are for double occupancy. You pay for two in the room irregardless.

No, even the "singles" cruises will require you to room with someone. So if you just have to go, search the various cruise lines and look for the cruise dates when the fares are the very lowest and then book the cheapest cabin on that date. If you search you can find 7 day cruises for about $600. (and that's the rate for an inside cabin) so book it and it will cost you $1200 but you will have a cabin by yourself. OR, go on a shorter cruise like a 3 or 4 day cruise and again book the cheapest cabin on ship. Take an aunt or uncle with you and pay their way, or ask them or a friend go and pay half of their fare.

I've cruised on Carnival a number of times as a single, and it's pretty much the luck of the draw if you want to have a room of your own. On one trip I got one of the very last rooms, next to the boilerroom (a bit noisy when we started up, but not bad at all after that), for a few hundred dollars for three nights, but last year I paid $799 for a five-night inside room when some friends who shared paid about $399 each. Even as a repeat customer, I end up paying the high rates.
