Has anyone been to Costa Maya?

Is there anything there? It looks like it is just a place to leave for Mayan Ruins excursions. I would love some info from someone who has been there.

Having been to just about every cruise destination in the caribbean/central america (i work on cruise ships) i'd have to say Costa Maya is one of my favorite places.

Why? well, because there really is nothing there! unlike grand cayman for eg which is slowly sinking under the weight of all the jewelry shops and tourism, costa maya is pretty much untouched jungle.

There is a cruise 'terminal' with the obiligotary shops and bars, then to the south, a 5 min taxi ride away is mahahual, a small fishing village with miles and miles of beautiful untouched beaches.

Out of the 'terminal' life is nice and slow, right on the edge of miles of jungle where the sunsets are great and the scenery and scuba diving are incredible

Costa Maya is great. The ruins will blow your mind away. It is a long drive from the port. We were on Princess Cruises. You'll have a great time!!!

The port itself is nothing but shopa and big scary men with semi automatic guns. Who they were guarding/or protecting is beyond me. Uvero beach was wonderful , so were the dolphins
