Have you worked on a cruise ship? |
Travel Info 1. What did you do? 2. How are your quarters; decent? do you share with someone? About how much space do you have for your stuff (to know how much I can take) 3. About how long are shifts? Do you get breaks in between? 4. Are you really able to visit the places where you stop? 5. I heard you work 6 months and have 2 months off. If you do a good job can you automatically come back or do you have to apply again? 6. Do you eat the same food as the passengers? 7. Can you get mail there? 8. Do they charge you for anything, other than stuff you buy like at a gift shop? Anything you think I need to know? Thanks a million! Travel Tips Wow! lot of questions. I work for Holland America Cruise Line. The Old MS Noordam. I was cruise staff. I shared a cabin with 1 room mate. big bunk beds a couch a bathroom, closets, study tables. take an alarm clock, a couple of personel item and more cash than you will need. With workers comming and going, people are alway selling thier stuff so they dont have to ship it home. its cheaper to buy what you need from others. shifts alway very. depends on what department you are in. there are always lots of breaks. Yes you are able to visit the ports you are in. Every department has to keep some people on watch for fires whem in port, but otherwise you are free to go into ports. Cuise workers are on contracts. these very in length. before the end of your contract they will ask if you want to come back. if they dont ask you, they will tell you why. Almost all food is buffett style for empolyees. For the most part, yes it is the same as the passenger food ( execept for the spendy stuff- dont expect to eat lots of lobster) Mail is sent to the port agent assigned to the ship in each port. When you get on a ship they tell you who these are. Mail make take some extra time to catch the ship. Most things are supplied to you. food, some uniforms, housing, water. You will have to purchase personal items on shore like toothpaste and such. If u free at that moment, when we are in the port, than u can go out! After every contract before u leave the ship, they give u next contract!Meal is Little bit different from the passengers.U either get used to it or not!U get mail there, you have to pay for Internet,20$ U get something about 3 hours of Internet!I think this is to expensive, but what can U do,that's one of the ways to be in a contact with the world! Its interesting thing to do,but just for a few years,no longer! Good luck |
