Going on Carnival Ecstacy Cruise - What to expect?

Travel Info
I'm going on a carnival cruise (ecstacy) from galveston to cozumel and progresso. What was your experience on this similiar cruise and and did you enjoy it? Also, what do I wear for captains night, all the dinner nights afterwards and during the day. Is it cold on the ship, will I need a sweater? How do I dress my kids? Sorry for so many questions, but I am a first time. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Travel Tips
the is a Fantasy Class ship, I have been on the Fantasy and the Inspiration, both similar to the Ecstasy. the Captains night is formal and going into the cocktail party there are 2 doors and the Captain will be standing at one, they will announce which one and as you said you have kids they would love to meet him and shake his hand and maybe get a picture with him if you bring your camera, (I got a pic of my sons with the captain and I did not have to ask)

as far as dressing them my boys are 10 &13 so they had suits, so dress them as fancy as you dare that night, but rember they will be eating in those clothes. there are plenty of phote sets to get pictures that night too, take as many as you want you only pay for the ones you go and get at the photo gallery.
if you walk the deck at night you might want a light sweater as it is windy but not cold, I do not bother myself.
as a parent who has been on a cruise with my children it will be 3 time thid sept, I would sugest you take advantag in the camp carnival for thier ages, if not all the time some, they will love it, and they do have a list of what they are doing when, just look and plan to what you and them need and want. Other Travel Tips
I have been on the Carnival Ecstasy twice in the last two years. I very much enjoyed my vacation! The staff were very attentive and helpful. The staterooms were decorated nicely and were pretty large. Since I was 11 when we cruised, I utilized the 9-11 portion of the Camp Carnival program. It was very fun, and I look forward to being in the teen program the next time we cruise. You will enjoy the vast array of activities on board. They seem endless! I suggest looking through your Carnival Caper each night, and picking out which ones you most want to get to. In Cozumel I suggest booking an excursion. I have done the Rock Climbing and Snorkel excursion and the Dolphin Interaction excursion. Your kids should enjoy these types of excursions. In Progresso, I suggest walking around the pier yourself, rather than booking an excursion. There are not many excursions in Progresso that would appeal to kids. The port still has a lot of work to do before it becomes a desirable place to visit. During captain's night, most women wore nice cocktail dresses, while men were suits or tuxedos. Some girls wore dresses to the formal dinner, while others wore a nice shirt and a skirt. Boys either wore nice pants and a nice button-up shirt, or their own suit. For the rest of the dinners, you can wear sundresses, skirts, mainly anything that you would wear to church. This same rule applys to men and children. The dining rooms on board have a strict policy of no bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops,or capri pants in the dining room during dinner. During the day most people wore shorts, jeans, and shirts. Most people wore flip-flops during the day. Many boys and men would wear their bathing suit with a t-shirt. The day calls for "resort-casual" wear. I have noticed that they keep the ship very cold inside. The outside decks are very warm, but the AC is on full blast inside at all times. I suggest bringing one or two jackets or sweaters. That way, if you become truly uncomfortable, you can throw a jacket on over whatever you are already wearing. You should also bring sea-sick patches. I use the kind that you put behind your ear. Put them on the night before the cruise. I have worn them on both cruises, and have barely felt any movement of the ship. Be sure to bring your kids to Camp Carnival, they will love it! I suggest signing them up for the All-Night Party hosted by Camp Carnival. The elevators are usually very crowded, especially at dinner and showtime. Therefore, I usually used the stairs. They're great for exercise! Be sure to go up to the Sports Deck to try out the mini golf course. Your kids will love it! The most important thing you can do is just have fun and try everything. You're on vacation, RELAX and have a great time! If you would like more information on this cruise, I have posted a review of the ship on Cruise Critic. Go to ship review and click on Carnival Ecstasy. Then click on member review on the ship's page. Scroll down to July '06. I have posted a review using the name Bananaz. You can also look at the many other reviews that are posted. Have fun on your cruise!
I've been on Carnival (although not the same cruise). For Captain's night, I saw people dressed in beaded gowns & people in jean shorts. I'd say a coctail dress would be most appropriate. My boyfriend wore a suit. Although I think he would have done fine in slacks, dress shirt, & tie. For the other nights, I think a nice sundress is all you need. And, I always think it's cold inside, so I bring a sweater or wrap or something to cover my shoulders - esp when their sunburned.
We took the Ecstasy for a family reunion trip in 2006.

We enjoyed the trip but the Ecstasy is one of the smaller ships and I felt more motion than on the larger Conquest class.

Take plenty of $1, 5 and 10 in US dollars to shop in the open air markets and for taxis, tips, etc.

Progresso is less developed than the other ports and you can get some great deals if you like bargain shopping. Be sure to take a canvas bag with you into town to shop. There are good little shops at the dock as well. It is really hot in Progresso so get a water bottle before you leave the ship.

Cozumel is very developed (and more expensive) for the tourist. I highly recommend the Cavern by Jeep tour. Stay away from the mall in Cozumel. It is expensive.

You will see all kinds of dress on formal night. From beaded gowns and tuxs to simple sun dresses and button down shirts. For my family, my husband wears a dark suit and tie and I wear a little black dress. My young girls like sparkly dresses or Easter style dresses.

Take a power strip. The room only has 1 outlet.

Take one or two of those XXXL Ziploc bags for toting home wet, yucky, sandy clothes.

Get a set of those 2-way radios if your kids are pre- or teens. Good for keeping in touch.

I can be cool @ night or in the theater. A light jacket is a good asset to have.

It costs $10 per day per car to park at the port of Galveston. Plan to arrive on the early side of boarding. The logistics at the port of Galveston are a zoo.

Get a porter when you disembark. They will help expedite you through customs upon your return. Tip about $1.00 per bag.

Also, mark the handles of your luggage with brightly colored yarn or ribbon. You will be amazed at how many people have the same luggage!
Cozumel is depressed so wear anything, I saw some kind of ice cream and T-shirts and people sitting on cinder blocks in front of their homes. Captain's night is dressed, everything else is shorts, maybe a jacket for dinner. Bring less you never use the high heels. Bring sweatshirts for everyone. Have fun.
