There is a "free" way of getting travel insurance through Lloyds Bank if you have, I think 拢1,000 in your current account. (You'll have to check the amount - it may have changed - ask them how much you need to have in to qualify for the Gold Card) They will give you a "Gold Card" which includes free travel insurance up to the age of 80. My husband did this when he was working for himself and travelling all over the World - it was a better "investment" than putting it somewhere else with a low return. Nat West have a similar scheme, but you have to buy their Gold Card which doesn't make economic sense. Others sainsburys are meant to be really cheap - they are all about the same though Type it into Google, because there is huge variation in premiums. Your question is in two parts as 'best' and 'cheapest' are not the same. As a best compromise I would recommend Fortis - very good cover, low excesses and they pay their claims.
