What do I need on a cruise from US to Bahamas for Homeland Security ID?

Travel Info
We are going on a cruise in 25 days. I was born in Germany to American parents in military but don't have current passport or my original Birth Certificate. I thought all I needed was Drivers Liscense but more I read the more I think I may be wrong.

Travel Tips
Last year (January 2006) they changed it so you have to have a passport to goto the Bahamas. If you put in for your passport you can put a rush on it and have it back in 2 weeks. Source(s): Traveler

You need a Passport and what ever shots the Health department recommends. The shot records card needs to be with your passport. Plus a return ticket. In order to get a passport you will need two passport pictures available at Walmart for $19, and an original Birth Certificate. It takes up to 8 weeks to receive your passport in the mail.
you need a passport- you can start the process at the post office, or use your old passport to get updated. Ask at the post office for sure.
I went to the Bahamas several times- have a great time!
You definitely need a passport. Usually a photo id and birth certificate. Im sure if u talked to the Post Office or wherever, they could tell u what is an acceptable substitute for each of the above. Good luck and happy sailing.
Me, an avid cruiser. :D
Heres the deal. I would highly recommend passports for your next cruise but they take like 3 or 4 weeks to get so thats out of the picture. Despite what everyone says the passport regulation and law doesnt go into effect until January 2008. So basically go to your local health department or courthouse and ask them for a birth certificate. You tell them where you where born and so on and your parents names and so on. Make sure you know your social, place of birth, maiden name and things like that. For your next cruise passports would help tremendously. Also bring a picture ID and have your ship ID with you at all times. I mean that if you lose it you might not be able to get back on the ship. So have your birth certificate and a picture ID for everyone in your family including kids if you are traveling with them. the birth certicates only cost like $10 so thats to bad but you need the information otherwise they won't let you on the ship. Have a good cruise and happy holidays. I wouldn't be to worried though since your going to the Bahamas since it has close relations to America but get all that stuff ASAP.
