Third Party Cruise Travel Insurance?

Travel Info
Okay so I think I'm going to get some Travel Insurance because I think the peace of mind might be worth it. I noticed there are a lot of third Party travel insurance companies for cruises that are much cheaper and in some cases better then getting insurance directly from the cruise provider. Just wondering if they are good as they claim and/or there were any third party cruise travel insurance agencies people would recommend/recommend against? Thanks a bunch.

Squaremouth is a comparison site that also has a zero complaint tolerance guarantee. All carriers on the site have to maintain a zero complaint level to stay listed.

The site has tons of drill downs and comparison tools.

I have never purchased travel insurance until just recently. I got my package through TravelGuard and they were recommended by my travel agent. They were inexpensive and will cover us if my husband is not able to come home from the middle east.

I have purchased travel in surance with Travelex for two dirrerent cruises and in both cases the coverage was better and less expensive. The last time we purchased from Travelex was for a cruise to the Baltic and we ended up filing a claim because the ship had to return to a different port than the one we had planned for and purchased train tickets for. So I filed a claim and the only thing they asked for to prove the trip interruption was a letter from the cruise line explaining the change of ports. I got the letter and submitted it to travelex and they paid the claim immediately. No hassles or reductions.

I will use them again. I generally get insurance when I have to travel out of the country, like to Spain or England, to board a crusie ship. Those are the situations when you could miss a flight, lose luggage, or have some other mishaps. I have cruised many times and only buy insurance in those cases.

I almost always get my insurance outside of my cruise package. I've actually found that the third party insurances are better than what some of the cruise lines offer. As long as you go with some of the more popular companies out there you should be fine. The biggest advantage is if you purchased air seperately, in this case most cruise lines won't cover the air with their insurance. But, if you go 3rd party it will cover everything.

Personally, I have never traveled without insurance, I feel it is a very important part of the vacation that a lot of people leave out. Cruises especially, if by some chance something would happen that you would have to return home while on the cruise it can cost you more than $25,000 just to get air lifted off the ship. Even if you don't have the worst case scenario, regular air may be incredibly expensive, or only first class may be available, etc. So it is definitely worth the extra cost to have the peace of mind.

Finally, as far as companies. I've used CSA travel protection for so many years I have lost count. My agent is now also offerring a different company that they have had really great success with and that is Travelex. I've not had to use them for a claim, but my agent has had great success with it. I have personally made a claim with CSA and had no problems getting my money.

Enjoy your cruise, they are great!
