Can i use my visa credit card in cuba? |
Travel Info have been told cannot use credit cards in Cuba if any are connected to USA, please advise if anyone from England has recently visited CUBA & have used credit cards without any problems. Many thanks Travel Tips Yes you can, but I wouldn't advise on it bring cash instead, use it for emergencies only, I've had problems in the past with charges on my visa from vendors I didn't shop at. Good luck Others This best answer may or may not be true depending on what bank issued your visa card. The people who said you can as long as it's not drawn on an American bank are correct. http://www.cuba-solidarity.org/cubasi_ar... I was in Cuba 10 yrs ago and hotels were taking them then ,but not much use outside of the hotel, perhaps it is different now If your bank is european canadian u name it u can use them, but if the visa bank belongs to the united states i advise u to bring eunogh money, another thing change your money little by little u don't want to be stuck with chavos(cuban money)u can't use them or exchnange them anywhere else. good luck So no true... I've just come back a week ago: Visa and Mastercard are not a problem. But it's much cheaper to change money. Changing money: the comission is 3% Paying or getting money with a credit card: the comission is 11%. So I'd only recommend it for emergencies! Changing money is also not a problem, and you can change it back. There are casas de cambio everywhere! In the cities (normally in the most touristic streets), the hotels, and the airport. When you change, they give you "convertible pesos". 1 peso convertible is equivalent to 24 traditional pesos. You can pay with convertibles everywhere, only be aware of in which currency a price is given (in a fruit market, for example, the prices are given in traditional pesos) I was in Cuba recently and any credit car affiliated with US banks cannot be used i.e. Capital One, HSBC - the best thing to do is phone your Credit card company and ask them if they are affiliated with a US bank. I used my credit/debit card from LLoydsTsb - had no problems at all. They will not accept any travellers cheques associated with US either I ended up just taking some cash with me - for spends, souvenirs etc., and used my debit card to pay for excursions - and got a very good exchange rate. I stayed in the Cayos - Hope you enjoy your stay wherever you go - have a brill time. |
