Travel Info Restaurantes romanticos en la habana, cuba? Travel Tips Yes there are, of course but they are only open to tourists. Cuban citizens are not aloud to enter tourist areas, even if they have the money, including some of the most beautiful beaches. And contrary to what many people think Cubans go hungry on a daily bases. The much touted free health care has three tiers: one for government officials, one for tourist and the one for the rest of Cubans who must bring there own sheets and aspirin. The great hospitals you see in the news are not what the average person gets. And if you are not a member of the communist party you get none at all. Cubans in general were more literate than Americans before Castro anyway. It is a country that deprives its citizens of the most basic liberties, such as the right to free expression. Those of you who don't think so should speek to those of us who had to flee. And if you have been there you only see what they let you see. Don't be fooled. Others I can't think of any "romantic restaurant" in la Habana when most of its population doesn't even have a bowl of soup to eat everyday. Personally, I couldn't eat in a country where I see people starving due to the government and communism. nada Contrary to previous answer, no one goes hungry in Cuba. That being said, food sucks in Cuba. And there you have the essence of Communism--everyone eats, no one eats well. Yes, there are alot of nice, first class restaurants in Havana as well as other parts of the country. The same goes for hotels. Food is limited to black beans and rice with most every meal and are very limited on fruits, salad & vegetables. Service is good and waiters & bartends are very friendly & hospitable. They serve mostly pork, chicken & fish as beef is very very limited. There are no bag ladies or people living under the bridge like here in the states. Plus they have free medical, supplies are limited, and everyone gets it free. It isnt as bad there as the news media and our politicians want us to believe. Havana streets are cleaner than most big US city streets. Don't knock what you don't know. I've been to a few restaurants in Havana - they are all very charming and romantico. You can't go wrong. Cuban citizens are allowed to eat in restaurants, and attend tourist sites - contrary to what was said above. They just don't because it is too costly. If they have a tourist friend that is paying - well - you get the picture. The only thing I've seen is the Cuban pays a different entrance fee for tourist spots. There are some hotel beaches(private) that Cubans are not allowed. |
