if you want any kind of decent service then you have to tip, all the time (even if you are all inclusive). Buy cohiba cigarss, cheap as chips and excellent gifts. try a mojita or three. Enjoy the sunshine avoid the trips to see the poor people and avoid the long trip to havana unless you are there for a while
Yep - take all the toiletries and extra stuff you need for your time with you as it can be quite difficult to get hold of stuff like that out there - not many shops etc.
It's a bit rainy out there at mo so take a light hooded jacket with you as well.
To have a good time - enjoy the rum, dancing, buccanero and people cos they are brilliant.
Always tip your waitresses, barmen, cleaners etc.
Alot of the room cleaners will do your laundry for you if you ask them. It is cheaper than the hotel service and they make the money directly. They do a lovely job. If you smoke take plenty of lighters - I've walked for ages there in the past trying to get a light! Cigs and cigars sold everywhere - just not with lighters!
Enjoy yourself!
Visit Cuba twice a year!
Just returned home from Cuba, had a fantastic holiday despite some rainy/overcast days - still burnt! Take a high factor lotion and plenty of mosquito repellant. Definately go swimming with dolphins - thats brilliant! As somebody else mentioned toilettries are difficult to get hold of so at the end of your holiday if you need to free up some room in the suitcase, bag your half used shampoo bottles etc and give them to one of your favourite waiters or maid, they really appreciate it...our hotel ran out of tea-bags so take some of them just incase!! Have a good time.
been to varadero. beautiful place.
rent a bicycle. but beware the only way to brake is to pedal backwards.
Go on one of the Jeep tours....you can drive your own jeep or be a passenger. Wear a swimsuit or bring one with you (and a towel). You will swim/snorkel at Coral Beach and if you are on the right tour you will stop and swim inside the Saturno Cave. Its takes a good part of the day and you see a lot of countryside, visit a Cuban (tourist) farm with lots to do. You might also go for a cruise up the Canimar River. Be prepared to get dusty!! Its a lot of fun.
I would skip the catamaran/swim with the dolphin tour. I was kind of bored on it. Go on a tour of Havana...but be prepared to do a lot of walking. Its a great place to see.
Get out at least one night and go to one of the Clubs to party it up.
Be prepared to tip everyone...not all the time...but often.
Bring toilet paper with you when you leave the resort...and don't expect any toilet seats on the toilets. There are usually washroom attendants in most places...and they expect a small tip also. Bring some disposable water cameras to take pics while you are snorkleing and swimming.
Bring all of you own medications, sun block, etc.
Don't expect to do much shopping...except at the markets. There is one mall in Plaza las Americas but it is expensive. I didn't try it....but the pizza at Pizza Nova is supposed to be pretty good. Have fun.
