How hard is it to get into Cuba? |
Travel Info OK, like I am a 29 year old male and I know it is kind of illegal. But how hard would it be and what kind of trouble could I get into if I went to like Mexico or Canada or somewhere like that and flew to Havana and get back safetly and not in jail. Travel Tips It's pretty easy to fly direct from Europe to Havana (or if you are in US to fly via Canada or Mexico). I have a few friends who have done this via Montreal and via Cancun. I'm told that the US somehow monitors people boarding flights in these airports going to Cuba or returning back. You can get into trouble for the Trading with the Enemy act -- no US funds are supposed to go to an enemy regime. I imagine it's a fine you pay and possibly confiscation of any items you may purchased. It is also possible to get a formal visa by going on a cultural exchange. I have two friends who have done this -- one to study Spanish for two months and the other with a film foundation organising festivals of international films. I know there's a category for aid work and Red Cross, as well as visa category for the press and diplomats. Back in the day, I was in Lebanon when it was illegal for Americans to go to Lebanon (I am a dual citizen and I travelled on my other passport). It came up during a interview for a US govt position when they reviewed my CV and asked how I had been in Lebanon -- didn't get the job... Others I know people that go to Cuba 3x's per year. It's not illegal. They fly out of Miami. The tickets run about $500.00 and you will need Euros when you are there. Just get things clear(ie paper work) with the Cuban government and don't bring anything back. You should be fine. I do not believe that person who said you can fly to Cuba from Miami. Those people must be flying to a Caribbean nation, then on to Cuba. You need to apply for a cuban visa, then fly to Mexico or Canada, then take a flight to Cuba. See the website below. http://www.embacubacanada.net/tramitese.... Honeyy if you want to go to Cuba , just go , the hard this is for a Cuban to leave Cuba. No problem at all. |
