I want to go to cuba with my friend. but i'm a u.s citizen and I hear that my chances are not good. Help?? |
Travel Info i want to go to cuba wit my friend for her birthday, but since i was born here i kno that i can't get so easily. i was wondering if there was any way that i could go with her and be able to visit her family and not just have to go as a tourist. i'm really looking forward to going i hear its a wonderful place. Travel Tips Getting to Cuba from the US is not illegal or impossible. There are regular flights out of Florida. The law says that US citizens can go but can not spend any us funds to get there or while there. You can get permission from the department of treasury but it is pretty hard to qualify. The simplest way to enter is from another country. A lot of people go from Mexico and Canada. Basically when you buy your ticket from a Mexican or Canadian travel agent you need to request a separate VISA card. This is what you will request to be stamped and not your passport. You generally do want to get rid of this VISA card before you enter US territory. So leave it in whatever country you used as an entry point. Also a good note is to not bring back souvenirs from Cuba. This includes pictures on your digital camera. I do know a friend that was stopped by customs and for some reason they asked to see the images on the camera and it was then and only then that they realized a trip to Cuba had happened and well lets just say LARGE FINES. Others Fly to Mexico first, and then get a flight from there. Oh, and no bringing back any cigars unless you want to get stopped by customs for a few hours. |
