Wich is the official currency in Cuba? |
Travel Info And as a traveller wich should I carry? usd? mexican peso? Euro?, Thanks Travel Tips There are two currencies with legal tender in Cuba: Convertible Cuban peso (or CUC) and Cuban Peso also called "Moneda nacional" MN. Most things a tourist would need (ranging from accomodation, a beer, a taxi, restaurants) will be paid for in CUC. 1 CUC roughly equals 1 USD, BUT if changing USD to CUC you will be charged a 10% commission so the actual change is 1 CUC = 1.1 USD. Absolutely DO NOT CARRY USD to Cuba because USD have no longer legal tender and are the currency that incurs the highest commissions. Carry EUROS instead because you will not pay the 10% tax, you will get approximately 1.1 CUC for 1 EUR. Do not even think about changing in the street as you will be most probably scammed. Cuban pesos or Moneda Nacional are the most widely used currency by Cubans with 1 CUC = 24 MN. You will not need more than 10 MN per day as you will most probably only use it to buy pizzas on the street etc. Please note that first time visitor may often confuse MN and CUC notes and/or get scammed for that. Familiarize yourself with both currencies. Please vote "best answer" Others The Peso Its the Cuban peso. The exchange rates for Sat 24/12/2005 were One USD = 21 CUP (Cuban Peso) One CUP = 0.0476 USD You shud travel with USD |
