What are the best things to see in a week around Havana, Cuba? |
Travel Info We are a couple flying in April 23rd and staying 1 week. Travel Tips Hire a driver and definitely go to the beach. I loved the National Ballet--much different version of Swan Lake than I have ever seen in the US. The African Cultural Center (I think that's what it's called) has a terrific dancing demonstration. Nightclubs and jazz are great. Walk the Malecon in the evening. Got to Cienfuegos. Take a Coco Taxi ride. Drive through Miramar. If Castro is speaking, definitely go see him. It's fascinating to see everyone rallied together and totally different than a rally in the US (no one holds up signs, just Cuban flags). Others To see Castro ousted to stop the suffering of its people. You can either hire a driver with a car, or rent a car, to make day trips out of Havana. You must see the tobacco fields in Pinar del Rio, then tour a cigar factory in Havana. Travel to Varadero for a day on the fabulous white sand, with the warm ocean breezes and the waves lapping at your feet. The Tropicana night show is worth an evening-great costumes and talented dancers. Tour Old Havana at least one day, drink a mojito in Hemingway's watering-hole, tour the Capitol Building and the nearby museums. You can walk around the University of Havana and take a look at the cemetery where many of Cubas famous individuals are buries. The National Ballet school allows you to watch the talent of the students. There are so many impromptu opportunities that will arise if you're open...the people are friendly, the city is exciting, and the weather is great. Enjoy your trip! |
